Joel is a senior policy analyst in NEA’s Collective Bargaining and Member Advocacy Department, where has focused on health benefits and health policy for more than 15 years. He is now leading a cross-departmental team at NEA focusing on health and safety issues in the context of COVID-19.
Allen Barkkume
Industrial Hygienist @New Jersey Work Environment Council
Allen is an industrial hygienist for the New Jersey Work Environment Council, where, among other work, he has helped New Jersey Education Association locals resolve health and safety issues. He has a background in architectural systems design and public health and specializes in indoor air quality. Before his work as an industrial hygienist, he taught art at a public high school in New Jersey for more than ten years.
Mark Catlin
Health and Safety Consultant @National Education Association
Mark has more than 39 years of experience in industrial hygiene, providing policy, technical, and training assistance on occupational and environmental health and safety issues for unions, employers, and federal and state agencies. He retired in 2018 as the Occupational Health and Safety Director for SEIU and is now leading a team of health and safety consultants for the National Education Association.
